Welcome

Dear colleagues.

On the behalf of the organizing committee I want to welcome you all to the XXXVIII Nordic Congress in Clinical Biochemistry.

The decision to organize this congress was taken in the middle of September (2021) under the gloomy ever changing shadow of the Covid-19 pandemic.

We feel that this is the time to leap out from the Covid-19 trenches and start to live normally again, going to congresses, meet ones colleagues, exchange ideas and gossips.

We all have an empty social feeling in our minds and have missed the social contact we previously knew and how valuable that is in our scientific work.

But what place, time and frame could be a better trigger to restart these functions than the iconic Harpa Concert Hall in Reykjavik, in May in Reykjavik when it is bright 24×7, with the odd and different Icelandic nature around the corner?

We are putting together what we hope to be an interesting scientific programme and we have invited the Nordic biochemical societies to organize one session each with a topic and speakers of their own choice.

Of course the diagnostic industry has been informed about congress and we are expecting good representation on their behalf.

We are very grateful for all the invaluable assistance we have got from our Nordic neighbours and are looking forward to seeing you all in Reykjavik next year.

Leifur Franzson

Chair of the Organizing Committee

This East Iceland gem is one of the highest waterfalls in the country and it is located only 30 mins away from Egilsstaðir. The landscape around the Hengifoss waterfall in @visitausturland is a real color explosion: the greens of moss, blues of water and reds of the clay between the rocks create a magical sight ✨
Fun fact: On the way to Hengifoss there is Litlanesfoss waterfall, equally picturesque! 😍 #inspiredbyiceland

Today we celebrate the Day of Icelandic Language! 🇮🇸
This day is also the birthday of a famous Icelandic poet and author Jónas Hallgrímsson 📖 What is interesting about Icelandic is that it does not usually adopt foreign words; instead, new words are created in order to keep the language free of outside influence. Til hamingju með daginn!
